Singtao Daily (2018-10-16) By :Catherine Chan 走路看似是自然不過的事，但對於初學走路的幼兒是一件大事。他們每步都是勇氣，每步充滿挑戰。同樣，apple、boy、cat這些看似容易的字，對未識讀字的幼兒來說，每次的閱讀嘗試和經驗都是勇氣和挑戰。 每名幼兒的語感都不一樣，有些孩子對文字較敏感，很快便掌握得到，有朋友的孩子才兩歲，已可掌握基本的字母拼音。相反，有些孩子語感不強，無論我們如何重複教導，他們就是讀不出、串不到。 我們該怎樣幫助孩子閱讀呢？每年「書伴我行」都會邀請擁有近五十年經驗的閱讀專家Julie Fowlkes從美國來港，早前我參加了她的其中一課──Transitional Readers: Ways to Guide, Support and Build Beginning Readers。我希望了解「由聽到讀」是怎樣「發生」，以及作為父母，該怎樣協助孩子閱讀？ Julie說我們首先要明白「由唔識讀到識讀」的過程，對孩子來說是充滿挑戰，「就算我們常聽到孩子的腦袋在幼兒時是超級的、發展迅速的，但『識字讀書』對他們來說，其實一點也不簡單，它在腦袋裏要經過非常複雜的過程，所以我們要給孩子多點耐性和體諒。」 Julie說我們要做孩子的教練，老師與教練最大的區別是，老師與學生比例可以是一對十、一對一百甚至一千；教練與學生的比例則小得多。換句話說，我們要觀察孩子，訂立一個適合他性格和程度的閱讀訓練，最重要的是把閱讀變得有趣好玩，令孩子對閱讀充滿自信，愛上閱讀。 Julie提供四大循序漸進的貼士（從幼兒至小學階段）： 一、Sight Words：原理有點像學中文，死記常用字，如am、was、has、for、like、you等。早在上世紀四十年代，兩位學者整理了最常用的一百字和二百字等「清單」。 二、Vocabulary：學習生字的方法有很多種，建議先讓孩子多聽，產生印象後才再逐一向他們介紹聽熟聽慣的字。意味毋須急於要孩子認字和串字，學習生字以「先聽後學」為原則。 三、Fluency：給孩子簡單易讀、適合程度的書，讓他們不斷重讀，目的是先增強他們閱讀自信。謹記原則是以Horizontal而非Vertical的方式做訓練，即是在同一個程度上不斷增加數量，向「橫」發展，達到一定的量後才向「直」上。 四、Comprehension：通過提問，幫助孩子理解，如鼓勵他們猜劇情、鼓勵孩子用自己的語言說出故事、問他們一些思考問題等。孩子通過這些活動訓練理解能力，爸媽藉此了解他們的能力。（本文錄自《親子王》周刊） Only available in Traditional Chinese
