The Girls

by Lauren Ace

The girls are four lifelong friends who were there for each other through life?s ups and downs. As they grew from children into grown-ups, even when their lives went in different directions, Sasha, Lottie, Alice, and Leela always supported one another. With its colourful and appealing art, the book shows a positive model for female friendships. It also subtly introduces the idea that one of the girls is not heterosexual. One scene suggests a pride parade, with the girls carrying rainbow flags. Later, one of the characters, as a grown-up, is shown with her female partner.
