Danny Chung Does Not Do Maths

by Maisie Chan

Eleven-year-old Danny Chung loves to draw and is thrilled when his parents inform him that he will be receiving a bunk bed and a surprise. He believes that he and his best friend Ravi can have sleepovers. But then the unexpected happens. Danny’s Nai Nai from China has taken up residence in Danny’s bunk bed. Nai Nai can’t speak a word of English, which doesn’t make things easy for Danny when he is charged with looking after her during his school holidays. Danny is enraged at first but later realizes that Nai Nai and he make an excellent team. Before long, it becomes clear to Danny that there is more to Nai Nai than meets the eye and that they have more in common than he thought possible. A funny, heartwarming book filled with fascinating information about Chinese culture and intergenerational family relationships.
