Volunteer With Us

It is YOU – our volunteers – who enable Bring Me A Book Hong Kong to deepen our impact and scale our programmes to spread the love of reading across Hong Kong. From 2019-2022, even during Covid-restrictions, we are incredibly thankful for 5000+ volunteer hours that have been dedicated by individuals from many diverse backgrounds, cultures and age groups, to provide meaningful support to BMABHK in different ways.

Book Wrapping (face-to-face ONLY)

We pride ourselves on the quality of the books we provide to the underserved communities. Not only have the books customized for the needs of our target groups, they are also new with hard-back covers. To ensure the longevity of the books, as they are borrowed frequently, our volunteers wrap them with plastic, protective covering and add BMAB logo and reading tip stickers to each book. As such, these books become absolute treasures for our beneficiaries – the best quality books they have ever had the enjoyment of reading in their lives!

Storytelling

Reading stories to children is one of our most popular volunteer activities. To ensure the quality of our storytellers, we provide a training for all interested storytelling volunteers. Once you sign up as our volunteer, you will receive updates on our Storytelling Training by email. The trained volunteer storytellers will be added to our mailing list and will receive notifications each month (depending on schedule restrictions) for opportunities to read to our beneficiaries – both virtually and face-to-face. The volunteer can then match his/her schedule with the time slots and locations available.

Skills-Based
We offer two types of skills-based volunteering:
  • Short-term, one-off volunteering, such as legal and HR advice, video editing, copy-writing, special events, proposal writing or fundraising.
  • Long-term, project-base volunteering, such as becoming an advisor or joining one of our sub-committees: Fundraising, Marketing & Media, Medical Community, Book selection, Schools Programme and Membership.
Back-end Support

From data entry to scanning book covers or checking filters for our book titles, we regularly need administrative and office support to ensure all our records and information are up-to-date and accurate. If you have great attention to detail and can read and write in English and Chinese, we would love to hear from you.

Each time I volunteer, I feel the benefits and joy that these picture books bring to children. Sometimes when I read aloud the books, I notice some of the kids taking the books from the bookshelf, flipping the pages and hugging the books as if it’s the favourite thing in the world!
