Your Name Is a Song

作者 Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow

A young girl comes home from school frustrated that her teacher and classmates can’t pronounce her name correctly, and even make her feel her name is bad or scary. Her mother teaches her that names are songs, and they joyfully sing names from a variety of ethnic backgrounds (African, Chinese, Latino, Arabic, etc) on their way home from school. The girl teaches her classmates and teacher how to sing her name so they always remember how it should be pronounced. This is a great way to help children learn about the power and importance of speaking people’s names correctly.
