When Stars Are Scattered by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed is the heartbreaking yet hopeful graphic novel about the daily lives of two refugees who have spent most of their lives in a tented refugee camp in Kenya. Omar and his younger brother, Hassan, are parentless, displaced due to Somalia’s civil war. As they spend their days waiting for an uncertain future, Omar starts school, makes – and loses – friends, all the while protecting himself and Hassan from the harsh realities of camp existence. Based on the experiences of one of the co-writers, Omar’s story is eye-opening and inspiring.
