The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

by Mark Haddon

This novel, which simultaneously won awards for children’s and adult fiction, is narrated by 15-year-old Christopher, who (though it’s never explicitly stated) is high functioning on the autistic spectrum. However, it’s not a book about Asperger’s… but rather about being an outsider, and seeing the world in a different way – which will make readers stop and think. In it, Christopher is accused of the murder of a neighbour’s dog. Although he’s told not to, he decides to investigate, and in doing so discovers shocking family secrets, which lead him to leave his comfort zone in order to put things right.
