Not Your All-American Girl

Do you feel torn as to where you’re from and where you belong? Lauren, an ‘all-American’ girl, who is half Chinese and half Jewish, and her best friend Tara have done all things together. She shared many classes at school and also have a shared passion for music and singing. Lauren despite having put on a stronger audition loses the part to Tara who is chosen only based on her looks and ethnicity. The teachers think Tara with her more American roots, thus looks, may seem more plausible for the role. These nuances of racism affects Lauren, a teenager. It affects her long held passion for singing and it puts strain on her friendship with Tara.
