Bernice Buttman, Model Citizen

by Niki Lenz

Bernice is a big bad bully. She’s as mean to other people as her family is mean to her. When her mother abandons the family, Bernice finds herself living with her aunt (a nun in convent). Her aunt supplies her with love and inspires Bernice to try to become a model citizen, but it’s certainly not easy to change your old ways so quickly, especially when you never learned how to make friends or be kind before! This warm and funny story will have your child laughing, and may even shed a tear or two in empathy for a child desperately trying, and often failing, to become a better person.
